چکیده
this report summarizes the results of 64 percutaneous catheter drainage of abdominal abscesses and fluid collections in 56 patients. aspiration and drainage was guided with computed tomography in 34 patients and with ultrasound in 30 patients. success rate was 90%. infected collections were successfully drained in 94% and noninfected collections in 72% . partial success was achieved in two patients. three patients failed to respond to percutaneous drainage. recurrence occurred in one. complications occurred in nine patients, two of which were major (3%) and seven were minor ( 1 1 %). image- guided percutaneous drainage appears to be the treatment of choice for most of the intraabdominal collections.

Percutaneous drainage has rapidly become the initial procedure of choice in the treatment of most intra-abdominal abscesses. The retroperitoneal location of the urinary tract facilitates a percutaneous approach and has been found to be highly effective, with surgical intervention required in a minority of cases. Noninfected fluid collections, particularly those related to ureteral or renal pelv...

The encouraging results of percutaneous abscess drainage (PAD) in simple intra-abdominal abscesses have led us to employ this method in patients with more complex abdominal inflammatory disease, such as those with multiple enteric communicating or multilocular abscesses and patients in whom the percutaneous approach requires puncture routes traversing uninvolved organs. Cure was achieved in 74 ...

Background. The aim of the study was to determine efficacy and reliability of percutaneous abdominal drainage in surgical patients and to evaluate intercostal approach to drain subphrenic collections. The mortality in undrained abdominal abscesses is high with a mortality rate ranging between 45 and 100%. The outcome in abdominal abscesses, however, has improved due to advances in image guided percutaneous interventional techniques. The main indications for the catheter drainage include treatment or palliation of sepsis associated with an infected fluid collection, and alleviation of the sym...
